Teenage Girls Developing into God Directed Learners

From an early age most children are dependent on their parents to help and guide their learning; then as they grow older, we find that they are initiating much of their own academics, work and service.

Ultimately, they transfer this initiative to asking God to direct their learning. We believe that Krystle, 15, and Holly, 13, Brubaker are moving rapidly into God-directed learners. For example, they make their own reports to their educational counselor. These reports indicate the kind of activities they initiate.

Another thing they did independently was to read a book by Dr. George H. Malkmus, entitled God's Way to Ultimate Health in which 1 Cor. 3:16-18 was quoted. Krystle commented, "That is a pretty amazing verse. We should not only take good care of our body (God's temple) because we want to be happy and healthy, but because our bodies are holy and special to God, and because whoever defiles and corrupts their body will be destroyed. Krystle tells that the author goes back to Genesis and to the Garden of Eden to look at God's diet on which Adam and Eve were to live forever.

On the basis of this book, the girls have decided to become total vegetarians, using no animal products at all and even eating mostly or all raw foods. They also have plenty of exercise, doing everything they know to make themselves fit and healthy so that they can better serve God. They have been experimenting with juices, healthful desserts, and even raw nut loaves. They watched as their aunt Jane died of cancer and believe that cancer can be prevented by the right kind of lifestyle.

Krystle is considered the organizer in the family. Her mother noted that she organized the cabinets in the house three different times without being asked. She also categorized the family library and keeps it very neat-always doing more than she is asked to do. She has been studying bird house plans and would like to start a birdhouse business.

Holly wrote an extensive paper on Spiritualism which is Satan's device to divert us from the truth, using little suggestions in movies, books, and games to deceive. She uses examples of the Harry Potter series, The Goblet of Fire, The Chambers of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and the Sorcerer's Stone. Many think that the books are good because they get kids to read and give them a healthy imagination. But as truly harmless as these books are made out to be, they do teach witchcraft, presenting it to be perfectly acceptable, when in fact it is dangerous.

Holly also likes to write poetry... Here is a sample:

THAT POWER

How many of us can honestly say,
Just how much strength we've gained today?
For in the strength there lies a peace
That your heart alone can hold and keep.
We all can take the time to be with God.
After all, when we don't it's Him we rob.
Numbers cannot count, nor minds behold,
The amount of joyful bliss that is foretold,
For all who'll take but moments now,
To talk with their Savior and gain that Power.

Krystle and Holly both accomplish so many projects each day as they apply the Moore Formula to their lives that even their parents are amazed at their initiative and energy. Their educational counselor is thrilled with the reports which she receives and thinks their vitality for life and learning is due to their attention to their God and their health, giving them the motivation and ability to be God directed learners.
